A lifelong resident of Monmouth County, Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden is well experienced in law enforcement and public administration.  As a career law enforcement officer for 18 years, he served as a police officer with the Colts Neck and the Toms River Police Departments, where he was responsible for the information and technology office.

His office, which operates the county Office of Emergency Management through the communications division, played the lead role in preparing for Superstorm Sandy in 2012 by coordinating the response and recovery efforts during and after the storm.  Sheriff Golden, along with the Monmouth County Constitutional Officers, developed and delivered the Mobile County Connection, the first of its kind in Monmouth County, which features mobile government services and programs to connect people with government in their communities.

Prior to being elected sheriff in 2010, he served as undersheriff where he was responsible for the Monmouth County 9-1-1 Communications Center and the communications and computer networking equipment for both county and municipal agencies.  Through the 9-1-1 Center, he has been instrumental in promoting and implementing cost savings measures through shared services with towns.

Sheriff Golden is on the Executive Board of the Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey (COANJ), and served as past President, Executive Board of the Sheriffs’ Association of New Jersey (SANJ) and is currently serving as Secretary. Sheriff Golden also heads the Homeland Security and Traffic Advisory Committees for the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA). He is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Monmouth-Ocean Foundation for Children (MOFFC), is on the board of the Monmouth County Prevention Coalition and has served as Chairman of the Monmouth Council of Boy Scouts Exploring Committee.

The Sheriff has received Community Service Awards from both the Latino American Association of New Jersey and the Silver Gull Award from the Monmouth Ocean Development Council.  He has also received the Good Scout Award from the Western Monmouth Council of Boy Scouts as well as the Maurice Pollak Award for Distinguished Community Service from Monmouth University.  He has worked as a certified paramedic for MONOC, serving both Monmouth and Ocean counties, and was a volunteer firefighter and EMT.

Sheriff Golden holds a Master’s degree in Administration from Seton Hall University, is a New Jersey Certified Public Manager and an adjunct professor at Monmouth University with the Department of Political Science and Public Policy.  In addition, he has received numerous certifications in incident command, homeland security and emergency management initiatives.
