Monmouth Pleasure Club - Klan Seeks to Get Land, Asks Court to Prevent Sale by Jersey Unit That Lost CharterFrom The New York Times, January 29, 1928, Page 8.
TRENTON, N.J., Jan. 28 – On application today of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, a Georgia corporation, Federal Judge Bodine set Feb. 6 for argument on the naming of a receiver to take charge of the 420-acre property on the Shark River, Monmouth County, now held in the name of the Monmouth Pleasure Club Association, Inc. An injunction to prevent the sale of any of the tract is also sought.
In addition to the association thirty-one individuals, mainly residents of Asbury Park and other shore points, are made defendants because of membership on the Board of Directors. It is charged that the property was acquired under the association name by Klansmen of Asbury Park and Point Pleasant. The Point Pleasure Klan’s charter has since been revoked and the parent body contends that it succeeds to all of the local body’s rights, having a trust interest in all property owned or controlled by any local Klan. The association is planning to sell the property, the Georgia organization contends.
