Designed to fly higher and faster than any aircraft before, the X15 was the merger of aviation and space flight. Able to travel up to Mach 6 and over 50 miles high the X-15 expanded our understanding of high-speed flight. Knowledge gained from almost 200 flights provided critical data for designing the space shuttle.
